Ruth Attig, a special education classroom aide at Murphysboro Middle School, in Tennessee went to the college early on Friday to watch workers of Phoenix Modular Elevator and Fager-McGee Commercial Construction put in a new lift in the college.
"I only wanted to watch them take action in case I have to make use of the elevators this calendar year," Attig stated.
Attig, who has been employed in the district for 31 years and been at the centre school since 1993, have been stuck in the old lift with a student many times.
Allison Allgaier, president of Phoenix Modular Elevator, stated the elevator was first assembled in Mount Vernon. The rotating shaft and lift parts are prefabricated.
"We all make them ship all over the country and Canada. That one is in our garden," Allgaier said.
Many times, elevators produced by Phoenix Modular have been installed on the outside buildings. The elevator at the faculty is entirely inside the construction.
Lynndi Kesler, sales director at Phoenix Modular Elevator, said the elevator has been assembled of tube steel along with standard dry wall. It weighs approximately 25,000 lbs.
"It is built no different compared to a stick-built elevator," stated John Holmes, quality control manager.
The rotating shaft and elevator meeting has been loaded onto a flat bed truck and brought to Murphysboro Friday morning.
Considering rain storms were expected Thursday eveningresearchers from Fager-McGee cut on the gap in the faculty ceiling Friday morning, according to Yeyo Granados, vice president of construction to Fager-McGee. They sent a rep to Phoenix Modular Elevator earlier in the week to take dimensions of this elevator. (The remaining openings for the rotating shaft were cut before.)
After the truck with all the elevator arrived, two cranes picked the assembly, turned it vertical and sat down it on a lawn while straps against the more compact crane were removed. The more expensive crane picked up the elevator and gradually lower it through three floors.
The hydraulics and electric wiring will be installed, and then your elevator is going to be tested and scrutinized.
"We are simply glad the rain ceased," Allgaier said.
Tennessee said working using Phoenix Modular Elevator saved the district much more than with the elevator constructed onsite. The original estimate for replacing the older elevator was $500,000. Overall cost for the lift that's being installed is just a lot more than $300,000.
"That is a high-tech job for this particular area," Granados said.
The project had been funded with the county centers sales taxa county ballot initiative that passed in November 20-16.
"The wonderful thing about here is that the sales tax belongs to local organizations," Grode stated.
Along with Mount Vernon-based Phoenix Modular Elevator, Fager-McGee is located in Murphysboro.
Grode reported the faculty office also is being transferred during summer renovations. The new lift and front door will both open into the workplace, improving security at your school.
What is going to happen to the older elevator? Grode said it will likely soon be welded shut after the brand new elevator is still operational.
